New Year, new goals, NEW COLOR OF THE YEAR.
Finally we know which is the color of the year and is such a relaxing and classic color that everyone will be able to wear or incorporate somehow on their style. So the color is…CLASSIC BLUE, a deep blue shade that’s at once comforting and relatable.
If we go 20 years back in 1999 and look at the color of the year, you might even remember it was Cerulean, a serene shade that represented the excitement of a new millennium and offered a calming visual to the anxieties that precede the 2000’s. So perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise since we are ending a decade and starting a new one.
“From now and then (1999), there’s the same feeling of trepidation about the world, which is why, based on what we saw happening in our global culture, we selected Pantone 19-4052, Classic Blue, to be our color of the year for 2020. ” “It’s a reassuring blue, full of calm and confidence. It builds connection.”
Said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, said to TIME.
"Pressman said that Pantone felt that the color highlighted dependability, trustworthiness, credibility, and constancy, all traits that are valued in the fast-paced, high-stress situations of the current world. She also pointed out that the deep blue matches that of the sky at dusk, which provides an apt example of why this color can resonate with so many people." TIME
This color definitely fits this moment in time, classic blue can be season-less and genderless, which makes it an easy color to work with in every aspect of design. Classic blue can be made out of natural plants and dyes, making it a representation of all the environmental movement.
